- Death Note Cosplay: Because fan’s love to transform themselves into what they love.
Probably the defining physical features of Misa Amane in Death Note are her top-of-head pigtails and her choker. These are the main items that go across most of the outfits Misa wears throughout the series.
And, yes, Misa does have more than one outfit!
Of course, her most iconic outfit is of course her black, funeral-like lace and accessories gothic number. She also wears a red dress in some scenes, nightwear, and more casual clothing.
That being said, almost all the off-the-shelf Misa cosplay items focus on Misa’s striking black outfit.
For a look at all the cosplaying all the main characters from Death Note, look here.
What are the elements that make up Misa’s black outfit
Misa’s most famous outfit is actually quite involved and has a lot of pieces. Of course, you can get a rough effect with just a few of these, but to do a complete look you will need:
- Dress
- Sleeve gloves,
- Choker
- Stockings
- Garters
- Necklace
- Earrings
- Boots
- Long Blonde Hair
Things to think about when putting your Misa cosplay outfit together

To set or not to set…
The first thing you need to think about when creating your Misa cosplay is whether you want to get a complete set or build up individual pieces yourself.
At first thought, the obvious choice is to get a complete outfit that is ready-made and ready to go.
But there are a couple of advantages and disadvantages with this.
The first disadvantage is that complete sets are never fully complete. You are still going to have to source your own items for some things, such as boots and wig.
The second disadvantage is that, if you buy a set, you really don’t have any choice about each individual piece of the set. Let’s say you like item A from set 1 and item B from set 2. Well, there’s no way to get them both without buying each set.
The third disadvantage with getting a set is that the overall quality of the items is not going to be as high as what you could achieve if you sourced each piece individually.
The fourth disadvantage of getting a set is that each piece of the set is less likely to be something you would want to use in other outfits or in everyday wear. They er more towards the “novelty” side of clothing.
Another thing to think about is that Misa is, well, a pretty sexy character. This might be what you want to do, but it obviously takes a level of commitment. It’s one of those cosplay outfits that you really have to “own”, no matter your body shape.
Misa’s Dress
Probably the biggest advantage about building your own outfit is that you have more control over what kind of dress you get. There are quite a few options that you can look at to achieve a Misa-style dress which include:
Materials: Leather, Fake Leather, Polyester, Satin etc.
Design: Laceup or non-lace-up, frilled hem, multi-layered hem, etc.
Obviously, you have a lot more control over the quality of the garment you are getting if you buy a dress separately, which means you are much more likely to be able to wear the dress outside of your Misa cosplay outfit also.
Misa’s Hair
In Death Note, Misa has quite distinctive hair. She has two small pigtails at the top of her head. The other element that you need if you want to get the full effect is the two long bits of fringe that she has symmetrically on either side of her head.
Oh, and did we mention that she is a (presumably died) blonde?
If you don’t naturally have all of these things then you’re probably going to need a wig.
Misa’s Shoes
Misa usually wears fairly chunky, long boots in Death Note. If you don’t have a pair of these, these could potentially be one of the greatest outlays you have when putting together your Misa cosplay outfit!
Misa’s accessories
Misa’s character in Death Note is generally associated with pretty ornate, almost gothic, looks.
This ornate look includes accessories, most notably:
- Chocker
- Necklace with crucifix
- Earings with either crucifix or anch
Misa doesn’t appear in exactly the same accessories each time she appears so there is some scope to expand or leave out some of the elements here as you see fit.
Really, what’s to stop you from including some of your favorite rings or necklaces here? You get the sense with Misa that more really is more.
Misa Amane: The only female character from the Death Note series that people cosplay most often.

Misa Amane is one of the more iconic characters from the Death Note manga and anime series. She was introduced in the series as a popular model, who gained fame for her unique look and good deeds. Misa has an obsessive personality and desires to live out Kira’s (Light Yagami) ideals of ultimate justice, while also being Light’s “girlfriend”.
She is certainly the most overtly sexy character in the series, so it is perhaps no surprise that, along with doing L from Death Note cosplay, she is one of the most popular Death Note characters to dress up as.

Death Note Cosplay: Because fan’s love to transform themselves into what they love.

The Death Note has been a popular manga series for many years.
But for some, it is more than just a story. They are an active member in the fandom, but not because they want to be entertained by fictional characters. Instead, they are drawn to the idea of dressing up as their favorite character. Putting on the costume, make-up, and voice-changing gadgetry can give them a sense of power that they don’t have in real life.
These avid fans can find everything they need for their outfits on the internet like masks, fabric pieces, and wigs. But some people take it even farther by willing to do things like get tattoos and piercings to make their costume as accurate as possible.
In conclusion, Misa is a great character to cosplay because she is fashionable, not too out of reach for beginners or advanced cosplayers, and is affordable. She also has a wide range of costumes available that can be used as inspiration or just as something new to wear at your next girls’ night out.
